Kas tässä Tarun tiineysseurantaa kuvin! Hirveen isohan tuo ei ole ja kun nyt on karvaakin, niin ei kuvista ehkä hirveästi mitään näe. Masua pitää koittaa . Taru voi hyvin, on vauhdikas ja tekee vielä vähän tokoa. Tosi ei ole yskän takia päässyt lenkeille, joten riehumiskaverin puutteessa Tarukin menee jonkin verran normaalia rauhallisemmin, mikä on hyvä.

Alkutilanne = 21 vrk ekasta astutuksesta.

Taru had ultrasound scanning yesterday - and she has at least few puppies in her belly! So little TarOts should be born on week 8 .

(We took ultra already now, 26 days from the first mating, as b-team has a camp on weekend, and Samu would have been tempted to participate if the dog had surely been empty. But this is better anyway!)

Our Christmas time was a bit different than usually, partly because of Taru's mating process but mainly because of Kosmo. He got a short epileptic seizure on 21 Dec but the vet thought it probably wasn't dangerous. Next night he got another seizure, short again, and another vet meant it's not time to start meds yet. In the night to Christmas he got two more seizures, a bit longer ones, so we went to emergency policlinic. Kosmo got the fifth seizure there, being awake this time, and this started a proper treatment. We ended up to spend all the Christmas Eve at the clinic, worrying about poor Kosmo. Finally they sent us home, and there we were, with a sick dog and with new plans for the Christmas (or actually no plans, or food or anything; we were to travel to my Mom). Luckily the medicine kept the seizures away but Kosmo was very anxious, noisy, hungry and had incontinence problems. Our other dogs didn't like him at that phase, something that he couldn't understand and became even more nervous. Poor Samu had to be alone with all of them a couple of days when I was mating Taru.

When the Christmastime finally was over, I contacted our vet and Kosmo got a repeict for cortisone, too. Now he is not so nervous any more, he can sleep and relax and other dogs like him again. The problem is that he drinks much, pees much and cannot hold his urine so much + that we don't know how long the situation stays that stable :(. I'm afraid the old Kosmo, the boy we used to know, has already somehow gone. We have a vet control next week.

 I and Pirjo the breeder travelled to Oulu to meet Otto on 26 Dec. Otto and Taru started their playing immediately and soon the first mating had happened :). They did it again in the morning of 27 and 28th. We thought that three easy matings was enough, so we said thank you to Otto's family. Thanks again for your hospitality! Otto was a very charming, easy-going, energetic, virile but still polite man also in his home circumstances. They seemed to be a very balanced couple. I really hope we'll get cute, reasonable puppies with lots of potential!

When we came home, Taru continued her plays with Tosi and Myytti, who both have season, for several days. I was a bit afraid that we had visited Otto too early, but Taru was mated on 12, 13 and 14th day of her heat, which should be quite ideal, especially as she was so ready. We will see, exciting! Taru is still training a bit (coldness prevents it little, today -27!) but bit by bit I put my energy to Tosi (and Samu to, well, floorball etc).

Taru has started her heat 15 December. Right after Christmas we will travel to Otto, a handsome male who we have chosen as her mate. Thanks everybody who has been involved in the planning process of the project "Taru's puppies"!

Taru on aloittanut juoksunsa 15.12. Heti joulun jälkeen matkaamme Ouluun, jossa Taru tapaa astutuksen merkeissä urosvalintamme, Oton. Pentueen kasvattaa kennel Tronic. Alla lisätietoa suunnitteilla olevasta yhdistelmästä.

Tarun sukutaulu ja kaikki viralliset kilpailu- ja terveystulokset löytyvät jalostustietokannasta. Tarulla ei ole tietenkään ollut myöskään muita vaivoja, allergioita tms. Sillä on kaikki hampaat ja normaali purenta (yksi hammas on poistettu tapaturmaisen lohkeamisen seuraksena).

Taru harrastaa agilityä (agilityvalio, myös hyppysertejä, b-maajoukkueessa 2009-2010) ja tokoa (evl:ssä, koossa yksi ykköstulos).

Taru on nopea ja erittäin hyvin hyppäävä ja kääntyvä agilitykoira, kuuma mutta silti suhteellisen käsissä pysyvä. Pystyy työskentelemään hyvinkin lähellä mutta irtoaa luvalla heti.

Tokossa se on nuorempana ollut herkkä huomioimaan ulkopuoliset häiriöt ja suhteellisen piittaamaton ohjaajasta. Nyt lähes nelivuotiaana se on paljon yhteistyökykyisempi ja edelleen innokas, joten valionarvo kakkoslajissakin on asetettu tavoitteeksi.

Taru on treenannut sen verran myös hakua ja jälkeä, että sen koulutettavuudesta voi sanoa jotakin. Se on itsenäiseen työhän pystyvä koira, joka ei kysele apuja ohjaajalta sen paremmin vauhdikkaassa kuin rauhallisemmassakaan työssä. Lisäksi se on erittäin avoin. Se ei pelkää laukauksia tai muita ääniä.

Palkaksi Tarulle käy mikä vain ruoka ja mikä vain lelu. Myös kehut, silittelyt ja sylittelyt saavat vastakaikua. Vilkkaana ja vähän dominoivana koirana ympäristön ja toisten koirien huomioimattomuus on maalaiskoiralle haasteellisin paikka. Toisaalta se on saanut melko vapaan kasvatuksen, mikä osaltaan selittää sen suhtautumista ympäristöön :).

Ylipäätään Taru on melko vahva narttu niin rakenteeltaan, fyysisiltä voimiltaan kuin luonteeltaankin. Se on n. 50-51 cm, 16-17 kg.

Kerromme mieluusti lisää kaikesta Taruun liittyvästä ja siihen saa tietysti myös tulla tutustumaan.

Otto on 5-vuotias, paimensukuinen uros, jonka viralliset tiedot löytyvät jalostustietokannasta.

Otto kisaa tokossa evl:ssä, agilityssa MAXI-3:ssa ja paimennuksessa 1-luokassa. BH-koe suoritettiin kesällä 2007.

Luonteeltaan Otto on hyvin avoin ja mutkaton. Normielämä sen kanssa on helppoa, eikä se myöskään stressaannu matkustellessa tai vieraissa paikoissa. Otto on pienestä pitäen elänyt isohkossakin koiralaumassa jossa on ollut sekä uroksia ja narttuja eikä sille ole koskaan tullut riitaa muiden koirien kanssa. Myös nuoremmat se on ottanut mukaan laumaansa ja toimittaakin usein pentujen-sosiaalistamis-koiran tehtävää tuttavapiirissä.

Työ- ja harrastuskäytössä Otto on väsymätön. Siltä löytyy potkua loputtomiin ja siksi sitä onkin toistojen kautta helppo kouluttaa. Lampaille Otto syttyi 9 viikon iässä ja on osoittanut suurta taitoa ja tyyliä paimennuksessa. Lajissa vain tuntuu olevan oppimista ohjaajalla, joten tulosten hakua jatketaan kiihkeästi kaudella 2010.

Agilityssä ohjaajan vaihto 2008 vuoden lopulla tuotti vihdoin seuraavalla kaudella tuloksia. Nollavoitoin Otto nousi 2-luokkaan ja sieltä Jukka ja Otto siirtyivät nopeasti kolmosiin, voitoilla höystettynä tietysti. Agilityssä Otto on suvereenisti nopeimpia koiria, mikä sitten tuokin haastetta sen ohjaamiseen. Hypyt ovat suuria ja kontaktit tarkkoja.

Tokossa Oton kanssa on ollut ilo työskennellä sen suuren innon takia. Otto palkkautuu jo pelkästä tekemisestä niin paljon, että muut palkat ovat vain ekstraa. Kuumana ja herkkänä koirana se tarvitsee kuitenkin hillityn ohjaajan joka osaa pitää kierrokset oikealla tasolla.

Rakenteeltaan Otto on linjakas ja tasapainoinen, keskikokoinen uros, säkä 53cm.

Sorry for lacking updates again! Weekends have been full of dog activities, and evenings as well. (This means that we are never at home during daylight, so our garden is quite poorly prepared for the winter… Particularly I haven’t done anything there.) Three weeks ago Taru and Samu had three agilitystarts in Hyvinkää, two weeks ago they had a training camp with B-team and last weekend I competed in obedience with Taru.

Agility competitions brought them the last missing clean run, so now Taru is qualified to both Finnish Champs and WC-qualifications next year. Otherwise the courses weren’t so very stylish.

B-team’s camp was a very very interesting experience. I was allowed to participate as an assistant, so we had two pairs of eyes and ears to learn (and too many dogs, so thanks a lot Pirjo, Nina and Tero for taking Kosmo and Myytti with you!!). Tosi followed us and got again plenty of practice on cottage accommodation, long waitings and new agility obstacles, even a table with a noise signal . Samu and Taru were among the most inexperienced in the team, and much fussing and hurrying in handling was caused because of excitement, I guess. He was still very satisfied with the gain of the camp, and so was I. And they managed to run perfectly the very last course of the weekend, a challenging course by Jan-Egil . It was good for their self-confidence that they managed to show that they can . It would be so useful to participate in two other camps too but we will see how it goes with Taru’s heat and possible puppies.

Last Saturday I had an opportunity to compete obedience for a long time (last time we were to compete I got sick) and before a long winter break. I think Taru was so cute but unfortunately the result wasn’t too great. Sitting and lying in group were good this time, 10. Next was stand, sit and down square which was good! Got 10. Heelwork was too eager, 9. In recall she was dreaming of the square and I didn’t take it into account but was too gentle --> poor stand, 9. In sending to the square I couldn’t estimate when I should command stand --> she slid out but then it went well, 9. Then it was a break and the worst moments left. First of these was directed retrieve, in which Taru aimed to run direct to the object but stopped when asked. I didn’t get a permission to command her ahead, so I guessed she wasn’t near enough the cone. I commanded to cone again, Taru jumped a couple of meters but not any nearer the cone but alongside the circle around it. Commended again but now Taru decided to retrieve the object… --> 0. Next was metal, good, 10. Scent discrimination then… She lifted the first one, started to work and brought the right one but 0 of course. Distant control: a double command in first stand, 9. So disappointing to get 0 again from the same moments but I think Taru was still fine! We are just too inexperienced yet. It’s a pity that there aren’t any more trials in the near future.

Border collies had an eye examination today. The examination was most actual for Taru, who was totally healthy. Tosi had a tiny scar in the right eye (in cornea) but nothing dangerous or hereditary. Unfortunately Myytti displayed mild HC (cataract). Have to check her again after 6-12 months to see how it develops. It feels a bit confusing now.

Weekend was spent (in dog sense) in an agility course by Jaakko Suoknuuti. I really didn't excel there! I guess that like other trainers, also Jaakko thought Tosi was a nice dog, but the same cannot be said about me as a handler . It is understandable that with a young dog, good days come and go, but this time I did my best to hide the good moments! The basic advice was: move less (take less steps, move more slowly) but just on time.

Taru and Samu were so good! I don't praise Samu often but this time it looked sooo cool! They are becoming quite a couple, I have to say!

I put my hope to my memory that Samu also had problems with timing in his handling a few times ago - he just kept on running. He really has developed, so maybe I can too? I wish I could, but I'm afraid I'm one of those who are very interested in learning everything about handling and who try to develop their skills but who never really can absorb those knowledge .
